We would like to offer our congratulations to Barry Myers who was named as a recipient of the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) in the 2024 Australia Day Honours today,
for going beyond the call of duty in their careers.
Barry has been a volunteer with the Rural Fire Brigade for 30 years and is currently a Group Captain with Kariong Rural Fire Brigade. What an achievement!
This is what Barry’s family had to say: “We found out about this well-deserved medal, by accident actually. Dad hadn’t said anything to any of us kids and one of us saw it on the NBN news. This goes to show what Dad is like, he is community minded and unassuming. He just gets on with what needs to be done. We are all so proud of him”.
Speaking with Barry when we phoned to congratulate him, he laughed and said he was honoured to have received the AFSM. On behalf of the entire Village community, staff and Board we would like to acknowledge Barry for his commitment to our local community. We are very grateful for people like Barry, who give so much of themselves and their time to service and help others.
